WMV to PSP MP4 Format

Hello people I am new to this site so if this issue has already been answered I apologize for this post. I have a G4 Powerbook w/ OSX Tiger 10.4.2. I recently downloaded ffmpegX for it and it works great, but the only few problems I have are trying convert WMV to PSP MP4. Everytime I convert it the finishing file has nothing in it and the encoding part takes less than a second to finish it up. Right there tells me that there was nothing on it. But everytime I play the movie on my mac it works fine. CAn anybody help me?

The other quesion I have is that everytime I erase somehing off my memory card it still shows that the MB were taken up when actually there all erased. Does anybody else have that problem? PLEASE HELP GUYS!!!!!

Help!

i've been having this problem too. Everytime I convert the finishing file has nothing in it. The file info tells me that there was nothing on it. But everytime I play the movie on my mac it works fine.

I have a Mac G5, working off Mac OSX 10.3 . Please someone help as this is driving me mad.

Okay, first off, PLEASE post what you get from the log when you press the blue "i" button.

Next, try experimenting a little. Does it encode if you select the XVID (mencoder)? If so, then we know it's something in ffmpeg. Also, try disabling the audio or the video when you encode so we can narrow down which part it's choking on.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. It works for mencoder, but not ffmpeg. I've had this occur with some files (for instance, only Mencoder can convert RealAudio files). Please post what you get in the log (blue i) when you encode using your original settings.

And please do try, using your original ffmpeg encoder settings, to encode with either the audio or video disabled and post the log results.

I'm not exactly a power-user, but I have one solution in the meantime. I've had some files that only mencoder could digest (RealVideo). In those cases, I would first convert to XVID AVI (mencoder) using a very high bit-rate for both video and audio, then convert the resulting file using the PSP preset. I understand that there might be a slight loss in quality, but it got the job done. Since I was scaling down to 320x240, I would hardly notice the quality-reduction anyway.

Process i went through was:

convert .avi file to XVID AVI (mencoder). Then use this converted file through the PSP settings.

Then finally, download your file to the PSP.

Only thing at the moment is, i have to start with a .avi file.
Do you know of a good shareware software for the Mac which can convert .mov (quicktime) to .avi files?

Odd. From my experience, ffmpegx can already handle .mov files. I have converted such files in the past.

Have you tried it and received an error? If so, it's time to hit that blue 'i' again!

Try to remove the .mov extension from your source file, then use "XviD ffmpeg" (also disable "Normalize audio" in the audio tab).

You must not disable audio encoding. Perhaps "Normalize audio" was already disabled with ffmpeg engine so you don't need to set anything. Just encode without the ".mov" extension and see.

Your file seem to use an unrecognized audio codec. You could first use Quicktime Player to export it to another MOV file using uncompressed audio.

Ah...I see the glitch. This is an old-style Quicktime format. Okay, do the following:
1. Select Summary Tab:
a. Drag your Quicktime Movie to the left side.
b. Select PSP on the right side.
2. Select Options Tab:
a. Enable the "Decode with QT" checkbox

1. .mov file convert to Xvid mencoder.
2 Xvid file convert to PSP setting

does this mean anything? i converted a file to .avi and then ran it through Xvid mencoder > psp mp4.

Man, I am really at a loss on this. Does the new version work for you? It really SHOULD WORK since the AVI was created by ffmpeg to begin with.
