  1. I've downloaded and uploaded that program VobSub, the video file and the ssa file are both in the same folder..... they both have the same name GARO - 01 - RAW - 640x480 - 29fps [7A950705].avi and GARO - 01 - RAW - 640x480 - 29fps [7A950705].ssa

I've tried WMP 9, WinAmp, some other one and WMP Classic.

In another folder I have a video with its soft sub and it works perfectly without even a sneeze or twitch.

    What am I missing???

  2. It's probably corrupt in some way (the subs). I've heard that one way to check is to try amd open it in Subtitle Workshop. If it doesn't open, it's no good.

  3. I'll give it a shot.

I'm told tho, that since I downloaded it from a zip file, that I would've been told it was corrupted when I unzipped it.

Btw... thank God for this place. And thanks for whatever help you guys can give me!

  4. More pieces to the puzzle.

-Apparently there's suppose to be a green arrow in my systray while VobSub works, but it is not there.

-I'm able to force it to work useing Window Player Classic, and changing the settings to VMR9 (renderless), but the pictures hiccup and stutter.

Here is an image of my files...

What video card? VMR9 works fine here. You could try ffdshow, mplayer or VLC. mplayer at least (not sure about VLC) doesn't render ssa effects though.

Yes, that's correct. It doesn't have anything to do with the subs themselves though. Perhaps they were edited incorrectly. The format has to be exact or they often don't get read by VobSub.

Also correct. You mentioned in your first post being able to play the subs for a different AVI. Didn't the green arrow show up when you played that one? However, some players have their own sub engine that will play some sub formats (SRT, for example) without having VobSub installed. Were the subs for that other AVI also in SSA format, or something different?

  7. Video Card:
    NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400

Tried the above players. ffdshow just made my WMP9 crash a lot.

This is just a shot in the dark, but you might try renaming your vid and sub file to something simple. I just love tearing my hair out for hours and then figure out that I had a single bracket backward, or that "o" was a "0".
Dunno. We hope for simple answers, but rarely get 'em, dammit.
