"In the past week, four major camera makers have quietly published service advisories admitting their digital cameras are dying. In each case, the flaw appears to involve Sony CCD sensors using epoxy packaging that eventually lets in moisture. Sony's own cameras are among those affected, and the company also has dozens of affected camcorder models. Sony is believed to be picking up the tab for the repairs for the other camera makers as well, regardless of warranty status. (If true, a laudable approach.) Given the large numbers of cameras that are potentially involved, this can't be good news for Sony, who apparently already is expecting losses, and who has also recently announced major layoffs."

Just great... Fuji is affected. Oh well, at least they are doing the right thing for now.

    You fool!

Its not crap, its Sony's DRM system for home photo and video.

You can't copy what you can't capture in the first place.

  7. If only they would've kept making cameras, out of the same QUALITY MATERIALS as they did 20 years ago, they wouldn't have this damn problem. Back then these cameras were made rugged. Now manufacturers only care about how cheap and how many they can produce at low cost.

I know several people that still have old VHS video cameras made in late 70's/early 80's. They still work. One person has two VHS cameras that have that big battery pack/recorder that you carry on your side. It's not built-in to the camera! My dad, has a Quasar VHS camcorder that was made in early 80's. You should see the lense on that thing. It is a lot of glass, compared to these puny compact camcorders and it is still going strong. Takes damn good pictures in low-light too. I think it has like 1 LUX capability.

    "You fool!"

You can always tell an idiot. When he has no valid argument, but wants to say something, he reverts to calling others names.

If this isn't a defective product that has died prematurely, I don't know what is.

The problem seems limited to high humidity climates.

    Unfortunatelly, this is 00s...

We use capitalism worldwide today, so we need new ways to move the global economy. And since wars are not a welcome option anymore, we need new alternatives.

Like crap devices for example, and crap stuff in general. To broke easy, so to force the people spent their money on getting new ones...
For the same reasons we need new technologies and stuff every few years.
This is what the 00s are about. The easy broken and crap devices are the most innocent sides of this new global situation, this new order. Other aspects are much more terrifiing...

30 years ago, in Europe, we use to buy stuff for a life:
My grandmother still use a b/w TV she bougth back in 1968 very expensive, years before I even born. It is a Grundig TV. And it works daily ever since! It Never broked!!!

Imagine, If the new products was like that today... The terror!!!!!
