Everytime I hook up a digital camcorder to the firewire card in the pc, MM2 boots up in the capture mode. I do not want to use MM2 for this. I have removed any association with MM2 in the Files Types but MM2 still open when something is connected to the firewire card.

How do I stop this from happening.

    Thanks

If you're comfortable with making Registry changes, this should fix your problem.

In Windows go to Start>Run, type Regedit and click on OK.

    Navigate to the following key

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\UserChosenExec uteHandlers

You should see an entry for your camcorder, mine is -

    H:\\?\AVC#Sony&MOD_0&CAMCORDER&DV#2D80700201460008 #{cc7bfb41-f175-11d1-a392-00e0291f3959}\GLOBAL+VideoCameraArrival

but this will vary depending on what camera you have.

Right click on this entry and click Modify. In the dialog box that pops up, type MSPromptEachTime in the Value Data area, then click OK.

    Restart Windows.

Now when you attach your camcorder, you should get a prompt to choose a program or action.

    Edit:

I found another entry at -

    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3942243025-3757435101-538525854-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\AutoplayHandlers\UserChosenExecuteHandlers

which probably covers All users, search for UserChosenExecuteHandlers to change there too.

Thanks for the help. The Registry change did the trick. I like using ArcSoft Showbiz for capture since it outputs audio as it captures. It was a pain having MM2 open every time I connected a DV device to firewire and having to quit it.
