If you do not want to re-encode them, use VirtualDub. Load your first AVI and then go to File-->Append AVI Segment. Keep doing that until you have loaded all of your AVI files. Then go to Video->Direct Stream Copy. Go to Audio->Direct Stream Copy (All the files must be encoded using the same codec in order for this to work, if they are not, keep reading).

If you do want to re-encode them (or the files are encoded using different codecs), do the same as what is stated above. Instead of going to Video->Direct Stream Copy, go to Video->Full Processing Mode and then go to Video->Compression. Select a Compression Codec and then go to File->Save AVI and save your final file.

Do a Google search or use the Tools sections on the left menu. I'm sure you will find some software that join all those files without problems (if all are the same aspects).

...and use the same codec for both audio and video and use the same bitrate and have the same frame rate - 50 AVI's collected from various places rarely meet these criteria.
What do you want with them all in the end? Author as DVD?

A quick method I have used to combine a lot of similar files (That were made to recombine, such as many parts of a complete video) is a freeware program called Filemerger. The parts need to be numbered sequentially or you can rearrange them within the program.

@lupio: You'd get much better replies if you were more specific about your source files than number and extension. Like audio/video codec, frame rate & c. Use GSpot to get that kind of info. It'd also help alot if you told us what you want to do with them in the end.

Do all AVIs share these characteristics? Like video: DivX 5, 1020 kbps 528*384, Audio: mono MP3 @ 24 kbps? If not, I'm afraid you have to reencode all AVIs to the same specs first, then join them. VirtualDub can do the reencoding (and joining once all files share the same properties) if you want to stick to AVI - TMPGEnc if you want to go mpeg (but mpegs are harder to join).

IIRC, DivXtoDVD is as close as you'll get - it will reencode a # of AVIs (regardless of properties) to DVD. To me, it seems like an awful lot of work/time to invest just for the sole purpose of having one file instead of 50...

Use avisynth and any encoder. Mainconcept MPEG encoder can convert to mpg and join them. DivX2DVD will convert them to DVD files.
