again, i'm a n00b at this so please don't fry me. if you read my other post you'll know i'm trying to decide on a decent capture card for my needs. the advice has been invaluable and i think i've settled on a product (Canopus ADVC50).

Can't get it for a few weeks, so i'm just tooling around with what i have (USB TV Excel running on USB 2) making some svcds and vcds. i've stumbled on a little problem- when i'm setting up and capturing, i can hear the audio fine. but the final clip, on the computer or burned to cd has no sound at all! i've tooled with all the settings, can't figure it out. i'm capturing with Power Producer gold 2 and the video is really good for a vcd as it happens. but no sound. PP says there is a soundtrack when i edit, but there aint... what am i missing here? i've tried changing the line in and stereo mix settings and checked everything 10 times... thanks for any suggestions.

Its probably a mistake (that I made time and time again) with your recording source - go to the speaker icon in your task bar and double click it . Then on the window that opens up select Options menu and select Properties , select Recording (it`ll default to showing the Playback sources . This will now show all the options where you can record from - you need to select where your sound enters your PC , Im not familiar with your USB capture hardware , does it have a set of cables to plug into a Line-In ? or does all the signal go into the USB cable ? if the former select Line-In as the source , if the latter the software you installed might have given you an option among the sources to select from - not sure what might be there .

The other reason might be your capture software , that could have a setting for you setup for the audio input as well , go through its options or settings to see what it has in that way .

You can hear the sound when capturing because in effect it will be bypassing the recording software .

(the instructions for changing the recording source are from the Windows 98 setup that Im using at the moment , if youre running XP it might be slightly different but the principle is the same)

Thanks Sartori... tried all those, no luck. i'm thinking the software might need a re-install or something. i'm gonna try some other software this afternoon too.

thanks for your help, much appreciated.
