  1. Ok trying to save as much quality as possible on a dvd so it will fit on a single disc, so removing all the extras with dvdremake, dvd shrink and menushrink, than more than likely burning with clonedvd2, but i was thinking what if i encoded every dvd's credits (which are usually fairly large) with a low bit rate to save quality on the main movie, sure it would take a while but how do i do it?

I am thinking demux the movie (don't even know how to do that) than use some sort of mpg editor and CUT the credits than encode them to ? than mux everything back together than convert from mpg to video_ts

Sound feesable? If so what programs shall i use? Thanks.

  3. Thanks for the speedy response, that article appears to be what i am looking for however i read that once you re-author a dvd in dvdshrink u can no longer use menus, i came across an article though that explains how to add the menus back in, but this seems like a lengthly and somewhat dangerous process, do you recommend a better way? http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides/VobBlanker/adding_menus/index.htm

    Thanks.

You might also consider DVD Rebuilder. It will allow you to keep everything (if you must), but breaks it's compression down into segments. You can probably alter the scripts for the segment with the credits to reduce the bitrate, however you then have to manually increase it in other places if you wanted to get any benefit from it.

You will also probably find that the credits are already fairly heavily compressed in the original video, and therefore there won't be lots to be gained.

From a personal perspective, if quality of the main movie is top of the list (which it is for me), then menus and extras get ditched, and sometimes even the credits get the chop. The Harry Potter films, for example, have 10 minutes of credits. That is a lot of space to be reclaimed. I will use Shrink to restructure the disk, output with no compression to the HDD, then run it through DVD Rebuilder for maximum quality. I usually keep the commentary tracks, but if I want to watch any other extras, I go back to the originals.

  5. Hi-

Assuming the credits are in a single cell, you can extract by "Single Cell" using PGCDemux. If you don't know which cell the credits are in (not usually the last one), then you can check in VobBlanker. It has a Preview. Then go ahead and reencode the credits, author to a "Mini-DVD" and use the Replace button in VobBlanker to fit it back into the DVD. I've done this before with no real problems, except that sometimes I get a little "pop" in the audio at the join.

...use some sort of mpg editor and CUT the credits than encode them to ?

    Not a good idea.
