  1. all my work so far has been with analog capture. I borrowed a JVC digital camera and now want to get the video into a file. I have looked at two programs, one is MS Movie Maker from XP and the other is Ulead Video Studio. Both make me choose the resolution and frames per second! This does not make sense to me. Seems like I want to simply transfer it at the resolution/fps it was recorded at... Why doesn't it just transfer the data in without me specifying anything? In fact, I am not even sure of the resolution of the camera. Specs say DV format (SD mode) and signal format of NTSC. I thought it would be mpeg2... Can someone explain this...

  2. Can someone tell me what resolution and format the DV is originally recorded in?

  3. If you're in NTSC, use 720x480, 29.97fps. You should be able to see this in the Video Comparisons link...

If you're using a firewire card, your setup should yield a huge file in DV AVI format, with a rate of 3.6MB/sec.

What you're seeing is kinda weird, as DV format is 'FIXED'...unless you're 'NOT' using firewire port to transfer.

    hope this helps.

  4. Sounds like I may not have set up my capture correctly for DV and it still thinks it is capturing from my ATI AIW128 card... Thanks for the help, will look some more at setup.
