  1. Hi there, I've finally got myself a DVD writer so no more VCD ! ! ! Woohooo!!!! I know this has been asked a million times but i was wondering what the best method to convert AVI to DVD. I am inclined to use TMPGEnc 2.5 (also have TMPGEnc xpresss 3.0 never used though) as this gave high quality VCD's. Or is there a more simplistic program. I've heard DVD Santa and CCE mentioned alot. Does they still give best available quality. Any recommendations? Quality is more inportant than speed and i wont be using subs.

    Regards Jim

Maybe you can have a try on winavi which can convert AVI to DVD with very stunning video and audio quality! Actually, I used this program for a long time and find it is pretty good though it is not free!

    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. the car dvd player that I am thinking of getting only plays region 1 dvds. If I do a conversion of mpg to dvd format, how does the player know what region it is? Will it play?

Is there a way to convert vcd to dvd format?

DVDs you burn are region free, unless you want a region on them.

  9. does dvixtoDVD do both vcd to dvd as well as mpg to dvd (all no region outcomes)

How do you convert a bunch of files at a time? And how do I know how many mpg files I can convert to fit on a 4.7 gig dvd-r? IS it essentially the same size after conversion?

Approximately how long does it take?

    thanks!

I suggest you download DivxtoDVD and give it a test run. It's free and it will expand your learning curve.

  11. I downloaded TMPGEnc DVD Authoring. Is there a difference between that and TMPGEnc?

When I try to add the file, some mpg will be ok while others will say "a sequence header is necessary for every GOP in DVD" I dont know what that means, these two files are the same but one works?

Also, it says below that I have used 59 mb (which is the size of the mpg) which is misleading becuase when I used divxtoDVD, my 59 mb came out to 125 mb. How do I keep track on a 4.7 gig dvd-r?

Yes. Regular old TMPGEnc is an encoder which will create mpeg files, while TDA takes the finished mpeg files and "authors" them to DVD. Meaning that it creates the menus and file structure necessary for DVD video. Mpeg files must be DVD compatible for TDA to recognize them.

  13. TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress is the best one? I think version 2.5 is confusing

Also, stupid question, bitrate is 9 or 10? Whats interlace versus non-interlace?

  19. I like DivxToDVD except that it resizes the video to the maximum size. Is is possible to do half-D1 (352 x 480) with this app?
