    So which format do you compress to most often???

    I usually use divx if I need to post something online. Though occasionally I've done wmv to get a smaller file size.

    I'd put mpeg 2 up there but even svcd files aren't generally that small.

    You have a mixture of codecs and containers there.
    mpeg1 = codec/standard
    divx = codec and container
    xvid = codec
    mkv = container
    mov = container
    asf = container = wmv
    wmv = container and codecs (WMV 7, 8, 9)

    As far as containers, mkv generally offers the lowest overhead.
    For codecs or rather standards, AVC/h.264 generally gives the best quality for small bitrates. So x264.

    Personally, I have never seen any .avi type format.. ie, XviD/divX
    etc. look good *and* w/out any blocks.. thus, I don't use them in
    my everyday video. That's not to say that I would not use them. I
    would. I'm just saying that I've never seen a block-less or pixel-less
    .avi format from the format list on top of this page

    I don't believe there is such a block-less guide out there currently
    today, hehe. Anyways.

    I use MPEG-2, though it was not listed.. I choose [x] other

    For the same bitrate there is no way that a XviD/DivX stream should block more than an MPEG2 stream.
