ok this is the deal I have a Mac g5, so most of the programs out there don't work for my computer.

This is what I want to do:

I want to rip my DVD so that I can edit a scene in iMovie. iMovie will only let me import MPEG and Quicktime movies.

    So...

I need to know, what to use to rip my DVDs (I have Mac the ripper.. does that work fine?) and then after I rip the DVD... what file do I convert, and with what program can I convert it on a Mac G5???

    thank you

rip with MTR, movie only mode.
Then, Select the resulting outputted VOB,
    and open in MPEGStreamclip.
Export from there to DV Stream.
    then, import into iMovie.

This is certainly one way to do things. Make sure you have the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback component (not free, and not included with QuickTime Pro) or MPEGStreamclip will not work.

Another alternative is Cinematize. In this case, rip the movie using Full Disk Mode in MTR. If you only need something in the beginning of one Video Title Set, you can stop the rip part way through.

The price of the MPEG2 Playback component is worth the trouble, if you plan to do this sort of thing often.
