    Stop kidding yourself.
Can you buy any vinyls now?
Can you buy all movies on VHS now?
    (not mentioning LDs).
    NO YOU CAN'T.
I predict an explosion of hard media, cable, dbs and download options in the near future. Availability will be increased far beyond your dreams and pricing will be set by supply and demand.

Im pretty good at predictions too, ya know...
But the facts *now* (not in yours or mine's or John Doe's predictions) are as I said: you don't have any real choice.
And you won't have, even though technology will advance far beyond our predictions most likely.
Supply vs demand works only in a free market. Since the movie industry is more regulated than the good old commie USSR ever was, how can you even dream about it.

I'll be very surprised if by the end of this decade the old rental model will still exist. We all will 'rent' and pay by each viewing, because thats what entertainment corporations want now already.
With this half-employed army, ARMY, of lawyers in this country, they will certainly extend akin to copyright laws everywhere.
After all why the law should protect only 'intellectual property' of some bunch of morons at the movie studios? What, the car makers are somewhat worse than the entertainment bozos? Why they don't deserve special protection laws, specially that their designs are far more valuable than any stinking movie or album...
Just wait. "One person - one car" (as in my prevoius post's analogy) will happen. No more driving Mom's car when youre a teen... "must have your own car"
And guys like adam (the lawyer) will explain it all nice and slick why it must be like that, and (almost) everyone won't even blink an eye.
    I can take bets now.

I disagree. You're not very good at predictions.
