  1. I finally found a useable Flashing utility, except it tells me it's putting the drive into kernal mode and just hangs there....how long should this take?
btw, I HATE dealing with Terminal stuff like this...it seems every bit of advice on various sites is based entirely on Terminal experts...I'm a GUI guy...it's why I got into Macs in the first place...

  2. You might want to share what type of drive you have and what utility you are using. People may have other/better options for you.

    Cheers

Not to say that your question cannot be answered in this forum but there is a very good forum specifically for firmware problems.

  4. OK, Pioneer DVR107, I've tried to use, DVRFlash, but I've got 40 different webpages all telling me to enter something different. I found one that sort of works, without any terminal work from me, called Flashit, but it goes in, asks the yes or no questions, then says setting drive to kernal mode, and waits. Forever apparently. After three hours last night, I quit the terminal, and the drive wouldn't even show up, but it worked with the old firmware after a reboot. Tried DVRFlash X, it started up, said it could take a minute or more. Left it overnight, still says that, force quit, reboot, still on the old firmware. Normally I wouldn't care, but the thing won't burn anything on DVD now, I keep getting "medium errors" "sense errors" and other stuff from Toast. Sadly, I did the upgrade about a year ago, but can't find the utility I used to do it!! Arrgghhhh....if I can't figure it out, I'm just going to order a new drive, I can't afford to spend 14 hours doing something that should take 1 minute.
