  1. I captured a camcorder movie to an .avi file and when I attempt to bring it up in Womble Mpeg Video Wizard to edit & convert it to an .mpg, I get an error: "..the file is Microsoft DV Type-1, Editor cannot find its Codec on your system".

How do I get the MS DV Type 1 codec and get it installed on my system or is there a better easier way to convert .avi to mpg?

Try converting the AVI to DV Type 2: DV Type 1 to DV Type 2 Converter - it's free and just re-arranges how the audio is stored in the AVI, it doesn't affect the quality of either the video or the audio.

Then run this AVI through your app. That said, I don't believe that Womble MPEG Video Wizard encodes to MPEG, it just edits it. I may be wrong...

There are a number of encoders listed in the "Tools" section.

  3. Good tool tip, although my avi files are greater than 4GB and there's an apparent problem with DV Type 1 to DV Type 2 Converter with audio in files larger the 4GB. Guess I could split them up to fit.

I had forgotten MPEG Video Wizard doesn't encode, but edits mpegs. Thanks for the reminder

Open your avi in Virtual dub and select Direct Stream Copy for both audio and video and then Save as avi. This will create a Type2. The new file will be slightly larger than the original, so make sure you have enough hard drive space to hold both.
