i can play any of the avi files i downloaded but i cannot view or hear them....basically a black screen plays....why cant i????????

go to tools and download either the kristal or nimo codec packs and install them.

did you upgrade to direct 8.x drivers and also the new windows direct show, go capturing and under direct vcd capture with AIW card you will find the links to them, some of the new divx formats require them, if that doesn't work they may be corrupted, a reg problem with downlaoded movies, you can try to fix them if this is the case.

What OS you use and what MEDIA player you use
Some AVI burn with compress code like DIVX then you have to download and install DIVX to have it play.
if you use Windows media player the goto MSN down load the newest verion.
Read FORUM about this problem first (Many questions like yours had been asked)
