Iam currently using the guide " How to reconvert an AVI with AutoGK, remove QPEL, GMC etc"

    I just upgraded from 2.12b to 2.20.

However, since the upgrade films that are 700MB+ after the conversion are only about 350-380mb. I did not change any of the setting during the upgrade nor after the upgrade. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. I have tried about 10 film conversions since the upgrade with the same results of being half the original size when its complete.

    Thanks,
    Snedman

What setting have you used ?

    Predefined size ?

    Custom size ?

    Target Quality ?

    More info required.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Used the exact setting that were shown in the guide.

I have tried setting it at a predefined size, custom size, (700 MB)
    and target quality 100%.

I enabled ESS as in the guide. etc. Everything is exactly as it is in the AutoGK conversion guide on how to reconvert and AVI.

The only thing that I did was install the upgrade from 2.12b to 2.20. Since that point it cuts the size in half. I know the Divx 6 codec is pretty good, but it isn't that good. to take it from 700 MB to 380MB and maintain same quality.

Have you tried AVI ReComp listed in the tools. It is designed specifically for making standalone compliant AVIs. A lot easier than using AutoGk (been there, done that) and works brilliantly. I just remembered having the same problem as you. Using Divx came out the right size but Xvid didn't. Uninstall Xvid then reinstall - do not install newer versions over top. It seems to mess up something. But after sorting out the problem I discovered AVI ReComp and haven't looked back. Good luck.

I will try your suggestion Kiwi.

I have been ("upgrading") the xvid codec when I put newer versions on instead of removing and installing froms scratch. The XVID have been coming out fine in size, it seems to be the Divx 6 codec. I uninstalled it and went back to 5.11 and they are normal size again. Not sure what the issue is, but I have been converting them to XVID and they are playing fine as avi in my Phillips 642. I will certainly try your suggestion as well. Thanks for your response.
