  1. Hello, all--

I'm having frustrating mpeg issues. I converted an DIVX avi to a DVD standard (720X480) mpeg2 via FFMPEGX (using the ffmpeg encoder). Everything seemed to work well, and Sizzle recognizes the file fine.

DVDSP, however, does not. When I opened the file using the Quick Time 7 player, the information box says that the file is encoded at 640X480 (which I assume is the reason why DVDSP won't accept it).

Why is QT seeing a different resolution? Sizzle, FFMPEGX, and MPEGStreamclip all see the file as the standard 720x480. Is this a problem with QT7, or have I encoded the file wrong? Has anybody else had this problem? Is there something I can do to make QT and DVDSP accept the file short of re-encoding with DVDSP itself?

If anybody can shed some light here, I'd be grateful. I'm tearing my hair out....and I haven't much left.

    Thanks,
    Clement

pull down flags...this has been discussed many times
in the ffmpegx forum. You would use the mpeg2enc
setting rather than ffmepg to make the file 3:2 compliant
    for DVD Studio Pro.

QT is the backbone for DVD Studio Pro. If QT doesn't like it,
(Q.R.E.A.M.), then DVd Studio, Final Cut, iMovie, iDVD,
    will NOT.

  3. I guess I should have mentioned that I used the mpeg2enc setting as well. Quicktime still sees the resulting file as 640x480 rather than 720X480.

I'm in the process of re-encoding using the "Set3:2" option, but QT still sees the product as 640X480.

I thought pulldown flags were about frame rate, not the resolution of the picture, or am I missing something?

In any case, still no closer to a solution....

I'll play with it more after work. Hell, I don't even want the project that bad anymore. It's more about just not letting it beat me!

You're not missing anything - if anything it is terryj who is slightly confused on this issue (sorry terry!)
