  1. I created a project on premier pro 1.5 and I've been wondering about how to shrink it down for use on the net, or just emailing to my friends.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

file size = bitrate x running time.

Since your running time will remain the same, you need to reduce the bitrate. This often means you need to reduce the frame size if quality is of any concern.

https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=91#91 might help. I'd use virtualdub.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Re-encode with a lower bitrate for audio and video.

  5. In my experience, AVI is usually bigger than MPEG, and RealMedia is smaller than both.

In Premier Pro, I would pick Export to Adobe Media Encoder, and use it to export to MPEG. Then I would use the resulting MPEG file on the net or to email to friends.

Another option is to convert your MPEG file to RealMedia. RealMedia gives you the smallest file size, but there are corresponding sacrifices in quality. So it's a tradeoff.

The other problem with RealMedia is that you have to download the reader at www.real.com in order to view it. They have a paid version and a free version, and you have to be a bit tenacious to figure out where the menu choice is on their web site to download the free version. If you decide to use it, please tell everyone you send your videos to that they shouldn't use their primary email address to register their download. I know for a FACT that some years ago RealMedia sold these email addresses to spammers - within 2 days of registering my download, I started getting ads for mortgages, enlarging my nonexistent penis (I'm female), etc. So I'd suggest using a "disposable" email address to register.

I don't remember whether Premier can create RealMedia files. If it can't, you might check on Ulead's video editing product - I know the version they had a few years ago could do it, but I don't have the current one so can't guarantee it can do it.

It all depends on the bitrate/CBR vsVBR/codec etc.

Some avi codecs offer excellent compression allowing either better quality video for a given bitrate or smaller file size for equivalent quality.

Some of the DivX6.0 stuff now is breathtaking:
