  1. Hi i have quicktime version 7 i have a imac g5 i have downloaded a avi movie file it will play the file but i have no sound i recently installed a codec in quicktime it is:

    divx fusion decoder componment
    divx fusionencoder componment

    the file plays but i have no sound is there a way of playing a avi file movie in quicktime version 7 with sound?
    if any one could help me your help would be grateful

    Have you tried VLC Media Player? It will run on the Mac OS and has it's own codecs. May be easier than modifying Quicktime player.

    BTW, on this site you should post in the Mac forum to get better response on Mac problems.

    red is correct about vlc. but if you really want to use quicktime, get the following codec from www.versiontracker.com

    3ivx d4
    ac3
    divx5
    divx6
    xvid

    that should just about cover any avi file you've got.

    nice to know i'm not the only brit in here 8)
