  1. Hey guys, I have a question.

I have a bunch of old Transformers episodes which I want to put on to DVD. The problem is that they're in three different formats: .avi, .mpg, and .wmv.

I want to be able to cram around 10 episodes per DVD seeing as how the source quality is pretty low (around 100 MB each episode) so there's no point in using too high of a audio/video bitrate (I'm thinking 2000 kbits for video, 64 kbits for audio).

So is there a program that'll let me convert all three formats to MPEG2 and allow me to set the resolution, video bitrate, and audio bitrate? I tried TMPGEnc but with that, the minimum audio bitrate you can use is ~1500 kbit/s which is just too much.

Also, what's a good, simple, and free DVD authoring program?

Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks.

That's only if you use PCM audio. I'd suggest you test your DVD player for compatibility with MP2, or otherwise convert to 2ch AC3 with ffmpeggui, belight, besweet etc etc.

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm tells you all you need to know about the process.

  3. VSO Software DiVXtoDVD is probably a good product for you to "try". I say "try" b/c it isn't free, though there is a free 'trial' version you can use (the trial version will put a watermark on the output).

Despite its name, it converts just about ANY video format to DVD compliant files. Give the trial a shot. You may find it does what you need without much fuss, which can mean a LOT compared to the trouble you may encounter using a myriad of other programs.
