I recently recorded a show on my Motorola 6412 and transferred it to my pc, when viewing the .ts file with vlc at the very top of the video there is a line that is all scrambled/distorted, what causes that?
Also why are the files natively in transport stream format?

are all tv recordings scrambled? some video may be distorted but you wont see it on the tv because of overscan http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/capture/understandsource.htm#overscan

PBS channels include atomic clock time sets for VCR or other clock systems.

Ok thanks, but what format are the files originally in when I record them on my Motorola dvr?
I'm assuming that the d-vhs program is the program that coverts it to a .ts file? -
