    I am using hdtv to mpeg2 to convert a .ts file and when I use it and then play the mpeg in media player the audio and video both play really fast, but hdtv is set to 29.97

    try some other player like videolan.
    or install the hdtv pump filter and then play with wmp.

    If I try to play the .ts files in media player (latest ver) it will load come up with Transport stream controls but thats it, I cant get it to play, I can click on certian places in the "timeline" but that just moves the marker and doest even change the image, it plays fine audio and video in vlc...
