I had read somewhere but cant remember where I saw a article that gave a particular number for the compression setting in dvd shrink when using re-author and it was less than the number suggested with dvd shrink and it said that its better to do this so you get good quality is this true and if so what would recommend the setting to be to get good quality.

That sounds like absolute horseshit to me.

In DVDShrink you can set your target size (which is normally 4464MB by default - a safe capacity for SL DVDRs) and then it will adjust the compression levels to make everything fit (normally perfectly). If in re-author mode and you're just doing the main movie, it would be reasonably uncommon for your % to ever go below 100 (no compression), provided you've unticked all unwanted audio and things like that.

You would only use a % lower than what DVDShrink recommends in either the rare case of not being able to compress to size first time (in which case you can run it through DVDshrink a 2nd time), or your target size settings are not right to begin with.

Never ever ever ever will using a lower % than what DVDShrink recommends result in a better picture than using its recommended values. Never.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I agree, except when using cheap media. In that case burning too far to the edge on cheap media causes problems. I usually set my target number at 4350 just to be safe. I never use cheap media...I stick with genuine TY's, Verbs, Maxells, and Sonys (made in Japan). Never have a problem.
