is it necessary to add a boarder if i am taking an avi to dvd? if i recall when i play a full screen dvd in my computer there is no black boarder and i never noticed a problem on tv. is a divx conversion differnt?

No, unecessary, unless you have hard subs that is getting cut off with overscan.
Quality is my policy. -
Some people get paranoid about overscan and believe they are losing out. As Stormin said, unless you have hardcoded subtitles that are getting cut off, you won't miss anything that you woun't have missed were you watching a DVD or TV broadcast of the same video.
