  1. I'm trying to do a backup with DVD Shrink. I'm trying to backup a master copy of a DVD and it's too big..I know that it automatically compresses it to make it fit, but even with that it still won't fit on the blank DVD and it won't let me do it...is there anything else I can do or use to make it work?

  2. Sounds like its a really big file on a dual layer disc. Probally gonna have to go with dual layer route or break it up to 2 disc in shrink.
    Quality is my policy.

  3. Just Shrink it again.

If you don't mind the quality hit, just run the Shrink video through Shrink again and it should be able to fit it on one DVD. This works best if it's not too much bigger than will fit on a regular DVD.

  5. Also, if you haven't already, delete any audio tracks that you don't need. I found that on some of my concert DVDs that this was necessary.

You may also want to consider removing any extras or bonus material using either vobblanker or titlesetblanker.

Also, consider doing a movie only backup with the main audio only, using dvd shrink in reauthor mode.

  7. DVD REBUILDER!!!
I first tried dvd rebuilder, I could not get it to work. About 6 months ago I tried it again, I will never go back to shrink again. The software recompress everything and you keep your menus. The best software I have ever used!

  8. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, as far as DVD Shrink goes, when you all suggested to shrink it again did u mean put the master copy DVD back in and then hit backup and let it encode itself again? I did that again and it takes about 1 hr and 20 min for it to encode this DVD and when it was done encoding again it told me to put the blank DVD in and once again it told me it was too big..is there possibly something I'm doing wrong? Should I pick something other then the backup option?
As far as DVD Rebuilder goes I just downloaded it but when it was done it said to make sure I have Cinema Craft Encoder or Canopus Procoder installed. I don't have either one and I went to the tools section and looked at them and it says they both are trialware and u eventually have to pay for them...is this necessary that I get these or can I try to use DVD Rebuilder without them and just use what came with the download and installation that I just did?

    Use DVD-RB.
I already own Procoder, so I use that.
But you can use a couple free encoders too (QuEnc).

Run the output of Shrink through again, not the original. That said, if it's that big and you want to preserve quality, some of the other suggestions may be a better choice.

  11. Well, I just finishing installing the Rebuilder, and when I went to open it it said Error Starting Program.. A required .DLL file, MSVBVM60.DLL, was not found, and Rebuilder won't open. Does anyone know what that is all about?

  12. Type Google.com in your browser and hit enter. Then put MSVBVM60.DLL in and do a search. Your just missing a Visual Basic file.

But I say run your file through DVD Shrink twice and you'll be fine. Worked for me many a time.

How can the automatic output on DVDShrink be too big to fit to a DVDR?

Check your settings in DVD Shrink. Make sure its not set over the limit of a dvdr, that may be the problem.

  15. It can happen, though rarely IME, that shrink can't shrink a movie enough to fit with all the extras. I second LS's advice to use Rebuilder. Running through shrink twice looks terrible, and given the extra time & trouble it makes more sense to rebuild it. It will likely still look poor, but much better than a 2x shrink will.
