  1. Is there any dvd recorders out there that can play wmv files?

I heard that Kiss and LG should have recorders that support wmv, any one that can confirm this?

Ok, do you know which model? And do you have any link where I can find information about this recorder.

I searched on LG homepage, but couldn't find any information that said any recorder did support wmv.

  4. It seems that he might by mistake thought that you are looking for playing WMA format instead of WMV.

I think they're still trying to get that one off the ground. I remember seeing in one of the home theatre mags that Microsoft was lobbying several manufacturers to make WMV HD-capable players.

On one hand, I think it would be great, but on the other, I'm hoping they stay out of the video disc arena, especially the HD side. It's bad enough with the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray war brewing, but to throw a third format into the fray would be chaos. Not to mention that of all the DRM lobbyists, they seem to be the most heavy-handed.

WMV is basically the same as VC-1, which has been adopted by both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. So it isn't a new format.

MS isn't a DRM lobbyist. Instead they are lobbied by studios (content providers) to support DRM features they want.
