Whats your fav OS for capturing?
Win 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP ... MAC even? hehehe.
I havent done much capturing, thinking of starting though. I would say I like XP, just 'seems' like it would drop less frames.
I have seen professional businesses use Win95 still tho..

I am not sure how those professional businesses use Win95 but in order to capture video to a file greater then 4gb (not very much when caturing in HQ) you will need a OS based on WinNT technology. These include WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP. I personally prefer Win2000 because I like working with only one OS on my system and enough of the software I use is not WinXP compatible yet.

Well if you follow the MS Service Pack Rule - then the only choice is Windows 2000. Win95/98 are too unstable and poor utilizers of RAM and have too much 'legacy code' to be of any real use.
Whats the MS Service Pack Rule? Never upgrade/install a new MS OS until Service Pack 2 comes out?
If anyone had followed that rule no one would be affected by this horror.

Just curious, why would someone want to limit themselves to capturing in segments? -
The companys using Win95 were not capturing into AVI by the way I do not think... not sure, could ask.

say you are capturing to VCD standard and it's a movie with no commercials - you set your segment at the size of the cdr your using and it saves time and cutting

I see what your saying but 4gb equals about 17mins of captured video for me. This was ridiculous, even with capping shows with commercials. Even if I could work around this 4gb limit I just think its not logical to have that restriction imposed on all of one's projects. I bought a system which came with WinME, installed my Pinnacle capture card, realized the 4gb limit and 'optained'
a copy of Win2000. I quess I never put much thought into the possible benfits of limiting my captures to 4gb but...well, I will think of something

If your card is supported, why go back to windows 2000, use windows xp, thats like telling someone to use 95 instead of 98 or me?
I have XP and although I never captured using 2000, I had me before upgrading, I can tell you I have been very, very pleased, very stable, not one crash since installing, over a month ago, and I STRESS my puter, 2 teenagers....lol
