I'm editing my video with Ulead Video Studio 9 and there is an option to adjust the audio level, with 100 (the default setting) being the "recorded volume level." On my last recording, the volume seemed pretty high. I made no adjustments to the volume level and when I played the DVD, I had to turn the TV volume way down or the audio was very loud. Other DVDs haven't been this loud so I thought maybe I had changed the volume on the DV camera accidently and didn't realize it.

Does anyone know how to change the recording volume level on such a camera? I would think it would be separate from the playback volume.

    Thank you.

Consumer Sony DV camcorders have AGC (automatic gain control) whereas pro versions sometimes allow manual level control on two 16bit or four 12bit audio channels.

Are you saying your audio volume is high when played directly off the camcorder?

No, it sounds like what I'm used to. It's the finished product that is very loud. On one TV, I have it at one "click" up from no volume and I can hear it pretty well.

On another note, I tried using Nero Wave Editor to record a short clip of audio so I could email it and it sounded terrible. It was very distorted, as if the volume was turned up way to high. That's the first thing that caught my attention.

This is the first recording that I noticed it on, so I thought I did something and didn't realize it.

I haven't changed the default settings in VS9. That's why I though it was the camera.

I'm still on v8. I've never seen this problem.

You can right click on the DV file and split the audio. The audio tab includes a level control but unlike higher end programs like Premiere, you can't keyframe audio levels. Video Studio only allows one audio level per clip.
