I have been using Windows Media Player to play avi format films for sometime - however, yesterday, for no known reason it started only playing sound with no picture. I have tried re-downloading, uninstalling and reinstalling codecs but with no luck - can anyone shed any light

    Many thanks

Is this all avi's? Because avi's can use many different codecs for video compression.

    Re: WMP playback problem

Try installing the Microsoft codec pack for WMP (you might have to upgrade first to the latest release):

I have a similar problem that started a few months ago. I'm not sure if its hardware or software related but when I click and drag the player for just a quick second the video pops up playing just fine. I have dual monitors with extended desktop enabled. I usually have media player on the secondary display which is on a 19 inch monitor. But thats what works for me. It is annoying but with little effort it is fixed temporarily. It doesn't do it all the time and when it does its just a black screen not that funky swirl display that you get with just audio. I feel it is time for a reload of the os. Good luck.

    Lynxer:

Have you updated the latest Voodoo drivers, or are they still supported?

    Sounds like a corrupt codec.
