  1. hello, I have three .vob files, 1.3GB each (3 episodes for a series of 6) extracted from a dvd with OSEx.

All I am trying to do is put them on to a dvd-r for play back on my external dvd player which includes a menu option so that I can pick which one I want to watch.

I burnt these .vob files with toast 6.09 using DVD-ROM(UDF) but nothing happens when I drop it in my dvd player as expected.

I have sizzle which and I am about to try and create a TOC then add the 3 vobs maybe this will work will let you know,

    meanhile any suggestions appreciated.

Obviously I have an alternative in MactheRipper using full disc extraction then compressing with DVD2ONEX. But I only want 3 episodes per disk.

    thanks

Toast 6.0.9 should have done this perfectly. What steps did you take with Toast? Does the DVD play on the Mac? Is there a VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD? Could you play the ripped VOB's before you burned them with Toast?

  3. thanks for your reply.

yes toast did burn it perfectly, that is not the problem - what I have is a dvd-r disk with three 1.3 GB vob files on it, the vobs play fine with Mplayer, but when I stick it in my external dvd player nothing happens.

This is the bit I am stuck at, what do I need to do with the vobs to get them to play on my external dvd player and also have menu appear when I drop it in.

    Oooo where to start

    1. You cannot burn vobs by dropping them into Toast 6.
    2. Sizzle also no good with vobs.
    3. I'd suggest you toss the vobs and start over. Rip the whole disc with MTR, then use DVD2OneX's cell mode to select which parts of the disc you want to copy.

Just saw Frozbozz's post. If FB says you can burn vobs in Toast 6 to make a playable DVD I'm inclined to believe him. However I didn't think it was possible. (Without the associated VTS files how will the DVD function correctly?)

  6. ok thats what I thought.

As I stated in my first post I know I can rip the whole disk with mactheripper then compress with DVD2ONE

but I just want 3 episodes from the disk. I suppose I could build a video_ts folder from a whole disk extraction to include only the 3 episodes I want.

The easiest way to do this with Toast 6 is to choose DVD video as the format and drag in the VIDEO_TS folder. Toast will report that some files couldn't be added, which is right so just click okay. The titles that are added will include some you don't want (such as the original menu). Select the ones you don't want and delete them. Now change the text next to the titles so they make some sense. You also can click on the thumbnail image and scroll to a different image you want to appear in the menu.

Lastly, choose the menu options you want such as if you want the menu to appear when inserting the DVD or simply have the DVD start playing the first title, and if you want the titles to automatically play one to the next without returning to the menu.

Assuming the three titles fit on a single-layer DVD you can then press the burn button. However, I still prefer to choose Save as Disc Image so I can preview the mounted image file with DVD Player before burning the DVD. The image file can then be burned to DVD using the Toast Copy window.

Yeah I did actually read your post When you open DVD2OneX choose 'Join' mode. You will now notice that a new 'cell/chapter/layer' tab appears in the right pane. Here you can specify which parts of the DVD to compress. I was suggesting just compressing the 3 episodes you wanted. (It wont actually compress it since they are less than 4.4GB anyway) This wont get you a menu though, so the Toast route may be the way to go (with video_ts folder, not naked vobs)

I tried using DVD2One with my episodes too. The only problem was that it was inserting a one second pause in between the chapters of an episode, AND, only the first episode would show up in the final VIDEO_TS folder. Not sure why.
