Something odd happened to my ability to playback mpeg2 files after I installed ATI MMC 7.5 (ATI Radeon VIVO, MMC 7.1 preivously). I get a garbled screen like the video is out of synch whenever I play mpeg2 with a software player. The only exception is with Womble Mpeg2VCR which plays them just fine. Nothing else will. Even mpeg2 captures done with the ATI software won't play on the ATI player so now how &^%*ed up is that?
The files burned to SVCD play fine on my DVD player. Short of removing MMC7.5, which is my next step I guess, I don't know what to do. I tried installing "the playa" but no difference. I tried the mpeg2 codec I found somewhere on the site here (in tools?) that is supposed to open mpeg2 in Vdub and others but when I try that, VDub gives me a "pack synchronization error". I thought I saw a post similar to this some time ago but searching the forum has turned up nothing.
This is driving me up the wall and I suspect there is some simple fix that has just excaped me. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you try playing mpeg2 files in Windows Media Player and show Properties what codecs are listed?
It sounds like possibly the ATI MMC 7.5 software un-registered and/or replaced existing mpeg2 decoder with its own versions. If you have a software DVD player like WinDVD or PowerDVD try re-installing it and that should replace the codecs with its versions.
