  1. Hello,

It seems as though people have very strong opinions either for or against, when it comes to the use of Monster cables. Some say they are all hype and are actually bad quality.

Does anyone have any experience with the "Cable Pro" brand of S-video cables?

How do they compare with the Monster brand, specifically regarding S-video and audio cables?

Here is the link for "Cable Pro":

    Thanks,

Monster cables come in different grades. They are usually OK quality but are sold with major advertising hype and high retail markups. Retail incentives (commissions and contests) cause your local retail salesperson to push these cables at prices 2-4x over equivalent cables purchased on the internet from other sources.

One internet retailer I trust so far is http://www.ramelectronics.net/

  3. Cables have min standard when they are manufactured, but some are more beautiful and more expensive. For short lengths they are all the same just buy the one that impresses you. Monster cable are very expensive eg if you need one that is long to reach your projector or HD TV the price difference could be a lot!!

Having used a variety of different cables, I can tell you that Cable Pro has some of the very best video cables available at any price. They are way better than even Monster's top-of-the-line M1000 cables. I haven't tried any of Cable Pro's audio cables, but I would guess the same. I am using Signal Cable Silver Resolution audio cables for the moment and am satisfied with them (though they are quite expensive at $160 per 3-foot pair). Come to think of it, Signal Cable's s-video cable at $29 even beats Monster's $60 M1000 cable. http://www.signalcable.com/

    At any price indeed!
$61 for a one foot cable and $4/ft for more? For S-Video?
Why would anyone pay these prices?
NTSC is very limited on bandwidth regardless of cable performace. This is like putting NASCAR $2000 tires on an Chevy Nova.

Apparently you haven't seen Audioquest cables, the king of cable over-pricing if ever there was one:

And for that price all you get is "Ships within Two Business Days". I guess they need to be road tested first.

  9. I've been through the cable phase with the thought that the more one pays, the better the sound. Wrong!!! I can sit in front of the Tektronix scope and cannot see, nor hear any difference.

    Reference system is:

    Levinson 33H mono Amps
    Genesis 200 series towers
    Musical fidelity DAC
    Levinson Pre
    2 channell

    4 Bryston 7BST mono Amps
    Bryston BP 25 Pre
    Musical Fidelity DAC
    Infinity RS1b speakers
    2 channel
Both run as HTPC to the Electrohome 8500 CRT projector. Sound stream carried by a Fiberfin toslink cable. Cost for the cable: $18.00 All sound is 2 channel.

Both setups sound superb as it is Redbook standard on CD playback.

I come from a car audio background and been through the cable wars over on that side.

All I can say is this -

Sometimes cables make a difference but maybe its how your system is setup. Sometimes you get a bad quality cable included with whatever electronics you get. You just assume because its new that it should work right. Not always the case, if you have a funky picture with say your S-video, try a different S-video cable before you go out and buy $20 Monster Cable S-video cables or anybody else's for that matter.

I mean my A/D/S DIN cables sound just as good as $20 per foot Tiffany cable....
