If you are burning with Nero, then nero aspi is all you need. But if you burn something else, you may need to install system aspi. There are some reg changes that prevent the pio fall back, but I have never tried them. I have a MB with nvidia chip set and I use their ide driver and don't have this problem. It is caused by bad media (repeated read attempts).

It is MS Windows way of telling you, it thinks there is a problem... alot of times a blip in your system will trigger this and windows doesn't correct the PIO thing on it own. If you get you IDE channels out of PIO and it keeps coming back then you have a problem....Originally Posted by taboo

Well, i got rid of PIO (with registry trick) but unfortunately problem persists. Lets hope Taiyo Yuden I ordered will bring me some luck! Personally I do have a feeling that something wrong with my PC, its either burner screwed because I ripped already a gazillion number of discs or something else! Could be media too! But so far nothing helps!Originally Posted by JSB1

3 of your last 4 were Sony media which is good reliable media (memorex is very unreliable) and they have TY MID's , so I don't think it's the media, unless you got a bad batch. It does happen, you know, even to the best media. Make sure you have the latest firmware and burn at the media's recommended speed. I think it's 8x for T02's. Good luck.Originally Posted by tabooI love children, girl children... about 16-40

I just burned 6th 1-8x Sony disc at speed of 8x (maximum) and its giving me Bad Disc message. All previous were burned at 4x because of this issue:Originally Posted by ricoman

If I won't have any problem with Taiyo Yuden which I ordered from www.rima.com can I say that I had bad Sony batch? Or its not necessary? -
If the new TY's work, then yeah, it's probably a bad batch. I would take the Sony's and try to return them.Originally Posted by taboo

Nice idea, but its 8 out of 25 pack gone, and I have second one (I bought it because Sony is the brand) which I am planning to return.Originally Posted by ricoman
If TY's will not work what should I do? return DVD burner? or look somewhere else?
Also I got this problem as well with Medium not present message:

Besides, I did Nero CD-DVD Speed ScanDisc and half of it Red -
If you still have the bad ones, return them too. It's evidence that the media suck. If the scandisc is half red, then it sounds like media. If you still have the problem, RMA the drive, then go to Newegg.com and get either a BenQ 1640 or an NEC 3540, both very good drives for around $40. Unless you want to spend $120 for a Plextor. But don't take my word for it, read the reviews at cdrinfo.com or cdrlabs. com. I think the BenQ 1640 received the best review of any burner review ever. CDfreaks.com's review says: To sum it all up, this is the best we could say: “An unpolished diamond, the drive performs excellent in almost every area and offers features that really puts it ahead of the competition” We will probably never find a perfect drive, but this drive is among the better if not the best drive we have reviewed and we hand out our “Editors Choice” award to it.Originally Posted by tabooI love children, girl children... about 16-40

Well I think you definitly have a hardware problem... PIO mode is evil... If the reg trick didn't do it, then your screwed (IMHO). Fix the hardware problem!Originally Posted by taboo
TY is good media... I have burnt ~400 with no problems.

I don't know if I said this before, but it is also common for loose or faulty cables to do this. If it is a 16x drive it needs an 80 wire cable.

thanks ppl for all of your help,
I think i will need to change my Sony DVD RW DRU-710A burner. Something happened to it.
Like I said in another post I inserted Sex And The City original DVD and its doing crazy things with it. Skipping like never before and making scary sound.
I will keep posted
Thanks again,

Well, finally, i got some relief

It was not only cheap price for BENQ DW1640 burner at www.Newegg.com, next day shipping from coast to coast, easy and trouble free installation, but also burning the rest of so called "bad media" Sony discs, getting "Data verification completed successfully!" and I hope playing without skips and freezes...
To be honest I did not try to play it yet!
Thanks to all ppl who did participate in help for me,

If not, then time to buy a new DVD playerOriginally Posted by taboo

From now on i got only "Data verification completed successfully!" and discs are playing without any single skip and freeze.
Thanks everyone who participate in this topic and tried to help me with finding a solution,

Hello People,
Its been a while (almost 6 months) since I said in this topic that Problem solved!!!
I replaced faulty Sony DVD RW DRU-710A burner with cheap, reliable and pretty nice BenQ 1640. Thanks ricoman for suggesting it to me! I am also using only Taiyo Yuden for DVD-5 and Verbatim for DVD-9.
However I got slight problem today which makes my feel uncomfortable.
There are 2 DVD-5 (2 Series of same movie). I ripped main movies from each. Then using DVDShrink combined them and slightly (94.6%) shrunk to fit on DVD-9. But when I burned the disk, while watching I found out that in the middle (possibly right after switching the layers) on my stand-alone it started skipping badly.
I know that some players are slow at switching layers like it was explained to me here:
https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=297077
but it was not THAT bad.
Then I inserted that disk into BenQ 1640 and scanned it with Nero CD-DVD Speed and DVDInfoPro:

I would really appreciate any input about this
TIA,

You do have a small jump at the layer break, though it doesn't look too bad. Does the disc skip on your computer? It just might be your standalone player, some have a little bit of a hard time with burned DL discs. You might try burning your DL media at 2.4x if it happens again.

I did not have this before. Except for short freeze at layer break. I have no problem with reburning at lower speed. Let me try and let you know.
