Hey all i just did a whole system restore and for some reason my tmpgenc doesnt seem to want to open anything compared to before i reformated. Now i cant remember if i downloaded some extra plug ins for it that help it open divx/xvid files because it sure seems to hate those, and ive already increased the direct show multimedia file reader and anything else to do with avi's in the environmental settings to 3 or more and it STILL wont open the files. I ve also opend them with the Gspot program and it says that all the codecs for the video files are supported on my system and i NEED to be able to convert my xvids and all my divx stuff so if ANYONE can think of something i might have over looked PLEASE let me know and oh yeah im really sorry about my bad gramer![]()

I don't know if your problem is specifically the same as mine, but anytime i've had issues with tmpgenc, if it wasn't an vfapi setting, it's almost always been a missing, aged, or conflicting codec. At this point, you might install the latest xvid build (It'll play divx files, too. Also, uninstall any older versions of xvid first, if you have them, and uninstall any divx codecs you have), and the newest ffdshow. Hope that helps.

Have you looked at this page yet?

Sure sounds like a VFAPI plugin problem, but you say you've increased DirectShow priority, so...Maybe try what NoFace suggests. You could look at your codecs first with CodecSniper to see if any are "broken". Use with care.

Well i followed all of Noface instructions and it still doesnt work and ive used to the program Gspot to look at the file info and it says Xvid and or Divx5 that wont work when loaded into tmpgenc and ive also followed all the the instructions i can think of on that link so im pretty much at a loss.

I guess all I can offer at this point is sympathy. I've checked to see what codecs I've got installed on my system, and it's basically xvid and ffdshow, although i've got the nimo lite and matroska packs, but I remember when I installed them it was a selective install on both, not the whole pack. Wish I could remember specifics, but that was many brain cells ago. And, I guess, whatever is associated with media player.
I suppose if it were me now, I'd probably start with uninstalling everything, including tmpgenc, and re-installing one by one. And we all know how much fun that is...
I think this is the point where you hope that folks like baldrick or celtic_druid happen across your thread...occasionally larger than 255 characters -
