The Onkyo 503 Receiver that I just bought a week ago is really good and has 3 optical inputs and 1 digital coaxial input.....once I get a good set of speakers I am going to really get some good sound! Finally make use of the optical jack my PS2 always had but was never able to use.

    $459.99

    Onkyo Home Theater System (HT-S780)
    • 7.1-channel surround sound
    • DTS-ES®
    • A/V versatility • Dolby® Digital EX
    • iPod® compatible
    • Video-shielded speakers

I have the old 760(?) system and LOVE it... sure the speakers a crap looking... but they sound great! The reciever in Onkyo's Home theater in a box is comparable to a seperate Onkyo reciever, just missing a feature like On-screen display or something. Great bang for the buck.

If you find a better price online... check for shipping.... this system is close to 100 lbs!

Wait a second... check this out: 5.1 with DTS.... no EX (I have never used it anyways)
    $269.99

    Onkyo Home Theater System (HT-S580)
    • 5.1-channel surround sound
    • 600 watts peak power • 4 A/V inputs
    • Dolby® Pro Logic II/DTS®

2 digital inputs.... no video inputs though. Depends if you use your TV to switch your video inputs... my 10 yr old Sony only has one s-video, so this system wouldn't work for me.

Video inputs exists on some receivers to where you can connect some of your video sources like DVD player, VCR, game consoles and just switch between them with the receiver, instead of doing it with the TV (like Video1, Video2 and such).

But as far as sound goes, you still need the appropriate inputs. If you have at least 2-3 optical inputs and perhaps a coaxial input on a typical receiver, then you should do just fine. Just be sure to get a decent pair of speakers so that you can enjoy the sound like you want to.
