  1. Hello everyone,

I am having a problem when trying to view mpeg videos with my computer. When viewing the video clips in either wmplayer or winamp, the picture is lighter than normal. It seems that either the color balance is off or someone put a lot of extra light. Nothing is wrong the files that I am viewing because I can play these videos on my laptop and do not have a probelm with them.

I have also noticed when first playing the file in wmplayer, the pciture is obviously crap. But when playing the file in winamp while the file is also playing in wmplayer, the video in winamp is fine. This is also true if I go the opposite way and start with winamp first, then wmplayer.

This is why I believe that this is a software codec problem. Is there software out there to check this? I know that people are probably not use fans of wmplayer, but I would like to ask that be ignored.

Any questions on this, please let me know.

Try DXMan. Should list your codecs and remove unneeded ones. Codec Sniper is another program for codec management.

Usually you only need one of each codec. If you have more, that's a conflict. Those programs should also tell you if you have a corrupt codec, which is the more common problem.

Since your problem may be with MPEG codecs, you can delete all MPEG codecs and reinstall them as needed.

If you find no codec problems, maybe the problem is with the players or something in the OS.
