I have Philips dvp-642... it does a great job on DivX files and that's what I mostly need. However, it's picture quality on DVDs and on component output is not that great.
Now, I see the Pioneer DV-588A has divX support too. Is it worth it to upgrade? Does it provide a superior PQ? What about DivX compatibility? Is it just as good as Philips? better?
One other issue with philips was its menus, it is terrible. Is very hard to go through folders and find movies, it also showed only 8 characters of a name. Is it better on the Pioneer?
I appreciate any feedback from people who have tried both. Thnx

I have the Pioneer, which is great. Plays everything. Same lame file menu... BUT there is modded firmware online that is easy to install and adds a long filename browser.
