  1. Has anyone ever used this memory before? I'm looking to try something other than Kingston.

    This one for example

  3. I like Corsair and Crucial. I built a rig with a stick of Corsair 512MB Value Select, which is on special at newegg right now, and it runs great.

Geil is generally an expensive overclockers memory, but those seem to be competitive with other similar brands. I use the Corsair Value Select RAM a lot also, but only with mild overclocks. The XMS is also more for overclocking.

Geil is good but don't go buying 1GB DIMMs, get two identical 512MB sticks. You get far better timing for the money than you get with 1GB sticks. The only reason you'd get 1GB DIMMs is if you were trying to max the memory on your system.

Corsair is good but they're suffering from mainstream exposure (they're using their brand name on lesser-quality chips lately). Mushkin, Patriot, and Buffalo have been my recommendations lately. I have to find out which chips Geil is using in their 2-2-2 PC3200 to know what kind of quality they're putting out.

So far, I've used Mushkin, Corsair, and Crucial, without any problems. I'm not an over clocker or gamer, so stability is more important to me than speed.

I've read varying opinions on Geil and it's not worth the price for someone like me, who doesn't overclock.

here's my take. if it will overclock(going above what it was designed for) it will work more than fine at normal speeds.

g.skill and pqi are the bang for the buck right now. dont go too cheap. cause we all know what happens with cheap crap in the end.

Yes, I've used the 512MB modules for a couple of PCs I needed to upgrade for a client. If I recall, they were 3.0Ghz 800fsb machines. Worked fine.
