hello, I'm trying to use avi2dvd. I have several 50-55 minute avi files. How do I know how many I can add to one dvd-5 without loosing quality?

You use a bitrate calculator. There are some in 'Tools' to the left. <<<<. It goes by the time of the video and the bitrate used. Loosing quality depends on the bitrate and other encoder settings. Lower bitrate=lower quality.

With much over 2 hours of video, you might think about using 1/2 D settings, depends on the original quality.

If you are making a DVD, I would assume MPEG-2. NTSC DVD spec is 720X480, that's D1. 1/2 D1 is 352X480, similar to VCD resolution. VHS captures, for example may look fine on 1/2 D1. For DVD quality video, D1 is better. See 'What is..DVD' to the left for DVD specs. <<<<

You can get 6 hours or more on a DVD, but at a generally lower quality.

How do you decide if you have enough resolution/bitrate? Make a 5 minute test encode and view it. There are two many encoder variables to to just guess.
