  1. I saw a wiff of this in another thead but thought id ask specifically

are there problems with play back of 3ivx qt movies that were compressed in qt6 with this codec?

can 3 ivx work with qt7 to make new 3ivx movies from other qt files?
i use 3ivx to compress my output from my alchemydvr card to smaller files. I was told that the resulting 3ivx files would play on any qt even if it did not ahve the encoder.

    thanks

You ought to go to the 3ivX website, http://www.3ivx.com. They explain there that all 3ivX-encoded files EXCEPT THOSE THAT USE THE ADVANCED OPTIONS will be directly playable with a stock install of QT6 or better. No need to even install 3ivX on the client machine.

However, use of the advanced options almost invariably results in creating an MPEG4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile) video, as opposed to an MPEG4 SP (Simple Profile) video. MP4-SP is directly supported by the default QT MP4 video decoder, whereas MP4-ASP isn't. Use of that WILL require installation of either 3ivX, DivX, Xvid, or others, or combinations of those.
