  1. I'm new to the forum, so any advice would be appreciated....my Panasonic DVD player died recently, after 3 years of solid use (got that H07 error code), and I now really want to buy a region/code free DVD player. I've looked on amazon.com and dvdoverseas.com, and I've read pretty good things about JVCs and Pioneers. Can anyone help me with advice on what would be a good region and code free DVD player? Thanks for your help!

    Hi there Sarinha,

On your left (or here....) is a list of DVD hacks.
Once you've found a player you like the look of just double check that it can be made region free.

  5. @Sarinha25

I have a Cyberhome 300 (series MU, bios V13), $39.95 and I recommend it to anyone. I have read some complaints that seem to be about heat associated failures, mine does not sit on or below another unit and after a year I have never had a problem with it. A purist friend says it is slow at layer change, it seems to like DVDs burnt at 4x better than 8x, could be the media (Meritline, TY).

The unit can be set to region free (region 0) and it also plays PAL DVD’s. I use it for my Asian (HK) and British (PAL) purchases. This unit has been a great value for me, plays SVCD, VCD, music CD’s, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, etc. Some people have complained about DVD+R. At the price, try it and see what you think, you can always return it. Got mine at Best Buy, Circuit City current price $25.99.

When you are right, you are right. I was having a hectic day at work when I wrote that... Tsk, tsk, shame on me misquoting Jones the butcher.

Did you ever see the last episode? It is nice to see things end properly, not just fizzle out and leave things hanging.

    Cheers

Forget the Pioneer and get one of these:

My Philips 642 works great for a cheap player. I suspect that MJA has a problem with Xvid Qpel/GMC files and is a bit upset that the 642 doesn't play them. Well, maybe his Pioneer plays MKV then. Lotsa people uploading things in these oddball container formats that no current standalone play and then others bitch and complain on public forums...
