  1. Hi. I've searched the forums but didn't find quite the answer that I was looking for.

Whenever I capture something from my VCR it sounds fine, except when nobody is talking on the capture or just saying something without any music in the background. I can hear a buzz (hum) on the background.

Here are 3 links to the file (if one doesn't work, try the other one):

I even bought a shielded cable, but it doesn't get better. Please pay attention at the end of the file, there's the clear buzz sound. I tried using Audacity but it sounds a little metalic. I'm looking for a kind of hardware solution like lowering the line-in volume (ps: this didn't work) or buying another type of wire, because I think through software, It'll loose some of the audio quality. Could the problem be from my capture card? I never noticed this before, so I don't know if earlier captures had this issue.

    Thanks

  2. That's a 60 cycle ac hum. I removed it with a notch filter via Adobe Audition. Send me your email address via a private message and I will send you the notched test.wav so you can see the difference.

  3. Hi. Thanks for the reply and help. (I'm sending my e-mail by PM)
I'll get the tryware to check too.

Do you know if there's any other solution? maybe my card? line-in volume? new wires?

  4. Hi,

An AC 60 cycle hum is usually the result of a ground loop that exists someplace between your computer, vcr, monitor, UPS, etc. They can be a real bitch to get rid of sometimes. Try checking all your cables and AC plugs.

The volume does seem VERY low on your sample, so raising the volume might help, at least keeping the audio above the hum more.
