I am looking to build a system that will do all that it does now but handle video processing with no problems. What should be my main concerns? What hardware do I need to focus on? Which harddrives are best for this type of work? Which capture card is good? Which software should I use?

Currently with the system I have I am able to capture (not in good quality), and make dvd's out of them. I am able to make dvd's out of downloaded videos with no problems or distortion. Its mainly the capturing part that isn't to the quality that I want.

In the past 3 mounths I built a pvr system to do just that.
The videos I've capture looks great. I do all capture on linux now.
I use the Hauppauge pvr-250 card with knoppixmyth.
knoppixmyth comes in a single iso that you burn and sets the entire system to do just video work play dvds, convert videos from anything to anything, play music, Anything multimedia. It make setting up a system as easy as falling of a turnip truck

For Hw the bigger the hard drive the better at least as much as you can afford. I filled up my 160G drive this weekend (20 4hr PPV wrestling events for my son) transfering video off my Dishnetwork DVR to DVD. With the PVR250 a real fast drive isn't as much of a concern because it captures directly to vcd/svcd or dvd format and is already compresed. I do all this on a old Athlon 1.4G I had laying around. Once I capture the video (if capturing againg) I transfer the video clip to my P4 2.6g and authror the DVD and burn it. If not I do all of it on my PVR system.
