  1. OK.
Once and for all, its time i get a grip on this.

If i'm watching a video and the sound and picture dont match, i can in some players adjust the relation (mplayer, vlc).

Does a positive value of X milliseconds make the sound move BEFORE or AFTER the picture? Its really frustrating when i'm trying to match this and i dont know what direction to go. None of the doc files i have seen have given good explanations.

Is there perhaps a good rhyme or memory rule i could use? 8)

Use "plus" to go forward in time. Use "minus" to go back in time.

positive delay means that you delay the audio in relation to the video. (=you move the audio forward).

Just remember that it's called AUDIO delay, therefore it refers to the audio.

  5. You see a person clap their hands, and you hear the sound come in too late. You need a Negative Delay on the audio to correct this.

You see a person clap their hands, and you hear the sound before the visible action. You need a Positive Delay on the audio to correct this.

It is easy to get all screwed up on this, advise check several areas and actions. Also get a second pair of eyes and ears to verify. Lastly, make sure that your audio de-synch condition remains constant throughout the video, if it increases or decreases over time that a fixed delay amount will not solve your problem.
