Ok I have some footage of my band, and it was recorded by a friend. He gave it to me in AVI form. I wanted to watch it on my dvd player. So I ended up down loading WinAVI. It was simple enough and it worked for the first disk. The second disk started out fine then it would get choppy. Not like choppy as in the picture couldnt be seen, but it was running like it was in slow motion with sound. Now it plays fine on my computer. So what do I do to improve the quality, or where can I get a step by step tutorial on what Im wanting to do? I have a plextor 716a

Thanks so much for reading this!

Hi kingcye,
Welcome to the forums.
This is a very common question, so there will be:
a) Loads of posts in the forums - search.
b) A good number of guides too - search some more. There's a link for guides to the left.
Here's some tips on the usual steps (keywords in bold):
1) You've got the AVI - most people would need to either capture this or transfer from a DV cam.
2) Edit the footage, so it loks how you want it too.
3) Encode to DVD compliant MPEG2.
4) Authoring creates menus, if you want them, then outputs VOBs, IFOs and BUPS in a VIDEO_TS folder, along with an empty AUDIO_TS folder.
5) Burn the folders to disc.
Improve the quality by using a different / better encoder or increasing the bitrate.
Be warned: There's no "best" process, there's no "best" tool, and it's not an easy process to master. Be prepared for problems and frustration.
Buy a rewriteable disc.
Good luck...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room. -
Hey Man thanks so much for replying. I did edit the footage and I think it looks real good. Like I said the first disk came out great. I could watch it on my dvd player just fine. Now the second disk is slowing down. The best way to describe it is like when you're playing a videogame and there's only one monster the game runs smooth, but then when 30 monsters appear the game stutters a bit. Thats what it does. Ill search the forums and thanks so much for the help!

Simple , and has dvd output .
As for the sudden dvd problem , there can be many issues , one which users always overlook is that particular disc may have not been up too specs , always test media first ...
The second that gets overlooked quite often is users have installed a program or app since the last known good dvd creation was made .
Some programs have been well known for inconsistency , or creating other problems with other programs . Take the case of serifs movie maker , it will stuff up all dvd playback programs , nero , ifoedit , and others ... serifs product makes a real mess of things .
The third , which is known to happen from time too time without warning is the program you do use has in someway become corrupted , either parts of the program , or registry related issue . These in most cases can be fixed by uninstalling the product , reboot the pc , and reinstall the program .
The same thing when a usb connected scanner suddenly nolonger responds , even though the pc can detect it , the uninstall , reboot pc , reinstall , then connect device , and all is well , bar it be the actual scanner , cable dying , or the usb chipset from the pc having been compromised one way or another ...
Be aware of media types :
Dvd-r : suitable for all players
Dvd+r : most new players support it , some older models dont
If not sure , always use dvd-r ... , and slow your burning speed down . -
DVD-R is NOT suitable for all players. There are two members of my family that can't play any of my -R dvd's, but they can play +r or -Rom.
Most players will take -R, but not all.Rob
