I've had various issues with Media Player 10 in the past. One of which is an error when trying to play a DVD - and then it won't play. This recently happend (I just re-installed Windows, so fortunately I know what did it) when updating Nero. I rolled back before the update and I'm good again. Is there some issue bet. wmp 10 and Nero? I don't have it set as the mpeg2 player either in WMP 10.

WMP needs to use a third party codec in order to play dvds. Do a forum search and yo will come to know that many people are having issues with WMP. WMP is too buggy. I would suggest ditching it and using a alternative. I prefer MPC.

Sorry - should have been clearer. I have windvd set as the default decoder, i.e. I have a 3rd party codec. It's after installing the Nero update that I get an error when trying to play a DVD and wmp10 is crippled.

I would uninstall WinDVD, update Nero, then reinstall WinDVD.

As a note, I'm using the latest Nero and PowerDVD without any issues.

I wish there were a log of the error somewhere....

Have you tried looking the event viewer...its a long shot, but windows might be seeing some issue.

And, unless I'm mistaken, Nero has a media player. So it could be installing its own codec or corrupting the WinDVD codec. By installing WinDVD after Nero, the WInDVD codec shouldn't have any issues.

You can also check which codecs are installed and/or being used by your system.

Oh yeah - and gspot for any issues. Nothin' comes up. I'm ok now after a re-install of nero. Seems to be hit or miss. This is the 4 time it's happened on different windows installs.
