  1. I've been converting avi to svcd/vcd/kvcd for a while and even though I manage to get the picture really good quality and the audio in sync. It always seems to be quite. The problem is the talking always seems to be alot quiter than the sound effects. I use TMPGEnc to encode and thought I would try using Toolame to encode the audio to try and make it sound better. If any one has any ideas what i can do to get the audio the best quality it would be much appreciated

    Regards Jim

Use anything but TMPGenc to encode your audio and it should help a lot. You can also try BeSweet, which has a nice GUI that can help you with a lot of conversions. BeSweet and BeSweet GUI can be found at http://www.doom9.net in the Downloads section.

I don't think TMPGEnc is your problem. With a AVI, use Virtualdub to save out the sound as a WAV file and boost the level in that with a program like Goldwave or similar. TMPGEnc can encode that back into your video.

EDIT: Though I have never used this feature, in TMPGEnc Plus, click on the 'Setting', then 'Audio', then Check 'Use Audio Edit', then 'Setting' and you will have a page where you can normalize or increase the audio levels.

Your problem is with whoever put the audio on the AVI file. They didn't pay much attention to proper audio levels and this makes it hard to correct.
