  1. Hi there, been havin a whole host of probs over the last few weeks, but nevermind that i have it sussed.Apart from an audio encode problem in TMPGenc. So i read up and figured i needed a plugin, so i tried (both that were suggested but i aint havin any luck. They were tooLame and SSRCC.The only version of tooLame i can find doesnt support TMP and SSRCC "can't be used as an external encoder".Any help would be greatly appreciated. And my appologies in advance if the question seems a bit dumb i'm oretty new to this whole lark.Cheers

    Hi stigslim,

I think I know what you're getting at, as I suspect it was a post of mine in another thread of yours that led you down this path.

I'm at work at the moment, but I can take a look at this when I get home.

What version of TMPGEnc are you using? Mine isn't that recent, so things may have changed if you've got a later version...

  7. Put it this way i have looked for the one your using and i can't find it.Is that just plain Lame your using for layer 3?.Anyway i did what you said with the one i've got and it did appear to be doing something different but alas still no audio on playback.Do you think its worth ripping the audio off and encoding with other software, then hashing them back together when i have encoded the video with TMP?

    Hi,

    I don't use lame - that's for MP3. In fact, I don't know why it's there.

tooLame is for MP2 and I use it coz it's supposed to be better than TMPGenc's MP2 encoder.

SSRC is for resampling - changing 44.1Khz to 48Khz for example. Again, it's supposed to be better than TMPGEnc's resampler.

Remind me again - what's the source material? Use GSpot (v2.52 beta is good) or AVICodec to get details on both the video and audio. Post the info here.

You might be encountering problems because the source audio is VBR MP3. If that's the case, there's another method - but we'll cover that only if need be... Suffice to say, it's close to the answer to your final question.

  9. Hi there , sorry its been a while, been busy.Right where were we, audio. You say the problem could be caused if the audio source is VBR MP3. I allready use AVICodec and the audio on the clip i am looking at right now is Audio : 93 MB, 131 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported.Am i right in thinking this is VBR MP3?.Anyway i have used tooLame and SSRC with TMPGenc and i just don't get any audio thats playable. Its a blow cos TMP has given me my best conversion yet.Thanx in advance if you can figure anything out.

    Hi stigslim,

Well, 0x55 (MPEG Layer-3) is definitely MP3 (0x55 is the FourCC code for it). The fact that the bitrate is 131kbps, and isn't something like 96, 128, 192, 224, 256 (the usual ones, and multiples of 32) etc. strongly suggests that it's VBR.

So, in summary, I'd put money on it being VBR MP3 - which, as you've painfully discovered, TMPGEnc don't like. But, it's easily solved...

Load your AVI (it is an AVI right?) into VirtualDub and save the audio out as a WAV. Then use that WAV as the audio source in TMPGEnc if you want MP2 audio in your end MPEG2.

    Well done. Good feeling eh?

My authoring software (TMPGEnc DVD Author) has a burning utility that works well for burning the authored MPEG2 files that produce the VOBs etc. in the DVD folders.

But any decent burning software will do the trick.
