  1. Now that football season is here it would be great if I could save some games from my Scientific Atlantic 8300hd cable box to a standalone dvd recorder. The 8300 hd is a hd dvr.

I know that I couldn't save the video in hd but using it as a source via svhs output should provide pretty good quality video.

Ideally then, I would like to be able to save to a dual layer recorder for max quality.

The problem is that as I review the available dual layer recorders- Sony, Pioneer, and LG, an ideal solution does not seem to be available.

Anybody out there feel differently? Anybody very happy with there dual layer standalone?

    Thanks in advance!

If you dont mind the 4 second pause between the layer change, then you should get it. Personally I hate it. For instance when the layer change occurs it really disrupts the feeling of watching a game or fight continuously without hiccup and also once the layer changes and you want to go to a previous chapter you cannot because now u are viewing the new layer's content so you have to press MENU to go back to first layer. Obviously Pioneer doesnt care about the customers and just put out DL feature to grab customers without fine tuning it.

  3. Thanks Strongbad.

That was one of the negatives I had heard about in regards to the Pioneer.

Was hoping someone with experience with the LG or Sony would provide positive feedback as I have not read too much negative info about either.

    Anybody?

  4. Left column is where we keep reviews on dvd recorders, etc.

  5. I know about the left column but if you actually look at this specific issue, dual layer standalone, you will see that those specific units have virtually no review information.

I was hoping that someone with actual positive experience with a standalone dual layer recorder would respond (as strongbad did).
