Get a damn Mac! As the PC users would say :P (only than saying Get a damn PC obviously)

ffmpegX uses UNIX tools, which is obviously not possible for windows.

Well, on Windows you may use http://gordianknot.sourceforge.net

It's free, it's GPL, it supports DivX, XviD and most important x264 (so you may encode for an iPod)

the official site at sourceforge seems to undergo maintenance so you should download BOTH the Rip Pack AND the System (Codec) Pack from there:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/index4.cfm

If you like it more simple, go check for AutoGK (it's basically Gordian Knot but with less functions and a more simple interface)

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/index.cfm

And here's a good site with plenty of information on Gordian Knot and some tutorials too:

    http://www.doom9.org/

And don't forget to grab the latest x264 installer package from here:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=89979

    C ya

PhilG5 (I prefer encoding with ffmpegX on my DualCore G5 )

BTW: @major: what SVN revision is the x264 build included in ffmpegX 0.0.9u??? is there any way you could provide your loving customers with a more recent build? I didn't manage to compile it by myself (shame on me) because of that stupid "gpac" which is needed for mp4-output.

I use ffmpeg with cygwin and it works just fine. Never needed a GUI for it though, the command line is easier to manage for me.

Just download cygwin (www.cygwin.org) and ffmpeg (ffmpeg.sourceforge.net) , unpack, ./configure, make, make install, and run ffmpeg -help to find out how to use it.

Hmmm.. I should've kept my mouth shut I guess ^^.. Allthought you won't catch me saying ffmpegX is easy... Lot of trial and error before I got the hang of it. But it's a great app and I can't see how it could have been made into an easier app.
